“A sophisticated micro-payments service” will launch this autumn, Robert Thomson, editor-in-chief of Dow Jones and managing editor of the Journal, told the Financial Times.

While the best deal for Wall Street Journal subscriptions remain the offers that promote either bundled subscriptions to the online and print versions, or discount deals pushed through the web (vs offers marketed on wsj.com directly), the WSJ is going after audiences in different cities where it may not be the "home town paper".

Mr Thomson said the Journal saw an opportunity in its US metropolitan rivals’ weakness, adding: “We’re going to move in on each of the big cities.”
It has begun marketing campaigns in cities such as Detroit and San Francisco, where local publications are struggling. . .

Once in a while there's also call out box in the Journal for Morganstern's DVD tip which gives reviews for movies that rare not in the theaters but at your local BlockBuster or Netflix. This week, on Friday 25 2008, The Wall Street Journal page W6 has a DVD tip for 2 movies.

First, 1987's Baby Boom with Diane Keaton and second, 1958's Rosemary's Babies which he calls marvesly creepy.

The New York Times April 24, 2008, page E1 article by Edward White detailed how early last name ABC producers decided that the television series "lost," would run for only three more seasons through the spring of 2010, it also talks about how the finite ending has given those show a list of more focus and have an idea where they are headed, only 15.2 million viewers watched each week, which doesn't make it a top 10 show, but it is good enough to keep it was "hits." This season is ranks 6 in the ages 18 through 49 category, do you believe that this show is better this season, do you noticed the difference in the writing or are you asking yourself, why I am still watching this, let me know. listen

Is it me or did the Wall Street Journal just start to publish SPORTS news?

The Weekend Journal, which is delivered on Fridays now includes a sports page. And you might find "Game Time" useful, which is a quick summary of various games and sporting events that are on TV. I think it's aiming to be a kind of "What's News" of the front page for busy execs that want to know which games that they can catch on TV coming up.

But wait, that's not it! According to BtoB: The Magazine for Marketing Strategists's April 7, 2008 issue (page 13) the article, "News Corp. starts overhaul of 'WSJ'" details some other changes to the Journal:

"...more WSJ.com content available for free, suach as opinion pieces from the
print Journal. WSJ.com has also expanded free content about travel and

YouTube is watching you. In the near times March 27, 2008 on page C4 the article "YouTube featured how video creators when and where a clip is being watched". The article talks about bringing data analytics to YouTube video uploaders. Probably, it is going to be used more by marketers than casual users, but now data will be tracked for who watches the video when and where to graphically and by time and by state, and also internationally. Can you hear me now? In the New York Times March 27th 2008 edition on the front page is an article "Researchers play tune reported before Edison". It looks like Thomas Edison was not the father of recorded sound. In fact, a 10 second recording of a folk song was found to be recorded on April 9 1860 on a phonautograph. It was a machine designed to record sounds visually but not play them back. Thomas Edison must be heartbroken now in his grave. listen

In today's WSJ paper dated March 25 2008, The Career Journal section (page D4) has a Q&A, ""When the employers offer new hires bigger salaries" that talks about when a person that just as hired for the same job as you...but you find out that he/she is being paid more than you!

What can you do?

Do you go to Human Resources and complain?

How do they justify hiring someone for the same exact job or skill such as you for more money... and not paying you the same salary?

This happens all the time of course and it's demoralizing and frustrating.
