Unlimited Pay Per View for $8.99/month Revealed in WSJ

Today, Lee Gnomes of the "Portals" column (WSJ Marketplace section) today wrote about a little noticed feature of today's culture - instant gratification that has creeped into the home entertainment world. You can now watch any movie almost instantly without leaving your own home.

Netflix is the latest service helping to make this a reality to millions of homes across the country.

The service from Netflix is the most striking because of how much it seems to be giving away; one wonders how long it can last. For $8.99 a month, besides the DVDs by mail, you can also have unlimited access to any of the 6,000 titles Netflix has online.

It is quite amazing how they can give away that much content for so little, but that's the nature of so many Internet-based business models : give away the store up front, gain the most customers and secure the 1st mover's advantage.

The download service is quite easy - just log-in and then select the movie to watch. And within minutes you'll be enjoying a new movie or TV episode.
As long as you have a cable modem or dsl account, you'll find that this is a great alternative to try out (don't forget you also can rent regular DVD movies every month).
Most laptops can easily output the video/audio signal to a TV monitor -- like most plasma & lcd tv screens these days. Think instant movie theater.

Basically, all accounts get SOME free movie download access. But the cheapest unlimited plan is $8.99/month. That gives you unlimited downloads as well as unlimited DVD movies by mail (1 out at a time). If you're already using Pay Per View through your cable box or sattellite dish account, this may be worth trying out. For the price of just 1 1/2 or 2 movies, you can get unlimited movies and tv episodes to watch.

The net of it is is that the consumer can benefit if they recognize the value offered in these deals. Without any contracts, Netflix is a bargain for any family that spends a decent amount of time in front of the TV each week.
